Scuba Diving Tips for Beginners

It's way more fun when you can see the underwater scenery than only sunbath on the beach, right? Maybe you should try scuba diving. The word "Scuba" is actually an acronym for Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus. When interested to learn scuba diving, please check this first.

Watch and listen to the instructors

They are very professional and know what they are talking about. They will guide you how to use an oxygen mask and also how to check the oxygen levels in your tube. Dont be shy to ask if you do not understand something.

Choose the best goggles

You will feel more comfortable scuba diving if your goggles fits your face perfectly. This alse ensures the water can not enter your goggles.

To check if the goggles fits your face use it without strap fasteners. Then breath through your nose and hold for a while. If the goggles still fit firmlyit means that mask is suitable for you.

Don't hold your breath!

Don't hold your breath and just remember to keep breathing and try to relax. This is very important. Sometimes, unconsciously you will hold your breath but doing this underwater can lead to lungs injuries.

Just remember to keep breathing and try to relax. Don't panic. Breath slowly and deeply using your diaphragm. Then fill your lungs completely and exhale slowly. Your instructors will show you how to do this.

Don't forget the hand gestures

There are a few hand gestures to communicate with other divers, like thumb up (it means you want to rise to the surface), thumb down (it means you want to dive more deeply), swaying hand like a wave (meaning there is something wrong) and the hand drawing a horizontal line (meaning you suffocate).

Keep diving near the instuctors

You are still beginner, so keep close to the instructors. This is very important to make sure nothing happens to you.

Dealing with the pressure on your ears

When you dive more deeply the water pressure will be stronger as well which will make your ears uncomfortable. Don't worry, you just need to gulp your spittle then your ears will be okay again. Or, you can push your nose first and then breathe through it. This is very effective. But when your ears are still uncomfortable, you have to rise to the surface immediately as the pressure may cause ear injuries.
