The effective period of restriction for operation of international flights at Myanmar's Yangon International Airport was further extended to May 15, said an announcement issued by the Yangon Aerodrome Company Limited (YACL), operator of the airport on Saturday (April 15).

The move came as a temporary measure to prevent importation of the Covid-19 through air travel to Myanmar, the announcement said.

The landing of all international commercial passenger flights at the airport had been suspended from March 30 to April 13 and the effective period was later extended to April 30.

The Yangon International Airport handled 1.46 million passengers in the first quarter of 2020, down by 17.14 percent compared to the corresponding period of last year, caused by travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, said a release from YACL on Friday.
