Malaysia-based low-cost carrier AirAsia Berhad will open a new direct flight connecting Kuala Lumpur to Lombok, one of Indonesia's emerging tourist destinations, in October this year, an executive has said.

AirAsia Berhad commercial director Jasmine Lee said on Friday that the airline would provide three flights a week; on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

"œNow everyone in Lombok can fly to Kuala Lumpur to enjoy the Malaysian capital that is also the hub of AirAsia Group. And for Malaysians, Lombok is a diamond that offers pristine beauty in every tourism spot in the island," Jasmine said in a statement sent to The Jakarta Post.

Jasmine said that Lombok's Mount Rinjani and its tropical forest would attract Malaysian tourists seeking natural adventure, while Senggigi beach and Gili Island were ideal destinations for honeymoon travelers.

"œThe beach is also a perfect site for snorkeling because of its natural underwater beauty," she added.

The airline is offering a special fare as low as Rp 299,000 (US$31.39) from Lombok to KL during its promotional booking period from Aug. 16 to 26. The tickets can be used any time between Oct. 12, 2012 and May 22, 2013.

Lombok will become the 15th Indonesian city to be directly connected to Kuala Lumpur.
