This makes Virgin Australia's deal to serve extra cities in Indonesia via Singapore using a Silk Air code share a reminder of how difficult any Australian carrier may find it to stay competitive as demand for flights from points in Sumatra, Java and Kalimantan awakes.


Indonesia is 248 million people with a rapidly growing capacity to do business and personal trips to Australia and other Asia-Pacific neighbors.
