Teritip Crocodile Breeding Cen

One of unique ecotourism in Balikpapan is the crocodile breeding center of Teritip. This center is located on Jl. Mulawarman No 66, Teritip village, subdistrict of Balikpapan Timur, near Manggar beach. The conservation park is located on an area of 5 hectares and there are about 3000 crocodiles of three different species: the estuary crocodile, sumpit crocodile, and freshwater crocodile. The last two are rare species.

The Teritip Crocodile Breeding center is the biggest in East Kalimantan. These crocodile are placed in different environemnts or cages: crocodile child cage, juvenile crocodile cage, adult crocodile cage, and cage specifically only for weighing. At the park you can get all information about crocodiles and you can not only see crocodiles moving around but also can directly feed them. You can buy chicken for IDR 10.000, prepared by the staff. Although feeding these amazing animals is very attractive you would need to be careful and obey all the rules.

The center also provides some other wild animal attractions like riding one of the two available elephants around the area. In addition, amazingly, you can try the crocodile sate which can be bought for only IDR 3000 per piece. Crocodile sate is believed to have positive health effects. You can even buy souvenirs like the genitals of crocodiles, crocodile oil, etc. Luckily for the crocodiles these souvenirs are only available in the weekend or public holidays.
