Banjarmasin

Banjarmasin is the capital of Kalimantan Selatan Province. September 24th is the aniiversary of Banjarmasin. This city is named as Kota Seribu Sungai (City of Thousand Rivers) for there are many rivers you can find here. Until now, Banjarmasin is the most important trading and port city in Kalimantan. This city is located on the eastern of Barito River and crossed by Martapura River. Many tourism spots you can visit here.

Things to see

Many museums you can go to, one of them is Wasaka Museum (Waja Sampai Kaputing). Inside, you can see many collections of historical things from Independence War time. You can also visit Masjid Raya Sabilal Muhtadin, the pride of Kalimantan Selatan citizen. There's another masjid, Masjid Sultan Suruansyah which is the oldest in Kalimantan Selatan. Or maybe Sultan Suriansyah and Prince Antasari Grave Complex.

You can visit Kembang Island and try to interact with thousand monkeys. Or you want to shop, you can go to Pasar Terapung (floating market) using motorized boat known as klotok. It will take 45 minutes from the downtown. Taman Siring Sudirman will be the best choice to hang out here, located on Sudirman Street in front of Masjid Raya Sabilal Muthadin.

There are a lot of foods you can taste here in Banjarmasin. One of them is Soto Banjar made of chicken with spices aroma like cinnamon, nutmeg and clove. You can also try lontong Banjar, laksa cook, rice flour pancake, gangan waluh, urap iwak bapais you can meet all over Banjarmasin City.
