Davao City is a city located on the island of Mindanao, Philippines. The city is the largest city on the island and also the regional center of Davao Region (Region XI). Davao History

Before the Philippines gained its independence in 1946, the entire region was incorporated and became a province called Davao Province with Davao City as its capital. At that time this province was the largest province with an area of over 20,000 square kilometers and last from 1920 until 1967. Until the province was divided into three provinces, namely Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental and Davao del Sur with Davao City as the official regional centre.
