Things to see
There are several fine historical buildings in Ipoh worth a visit. There is the Birch Memorial Clock tower, a memorial to commemorate the first British Resident of Perak who was assassinated by Malay chieftains, the
Darul Ridzuan museum, which keeps a history of Perak, the Railway Station and the Ipoh Town Hall, a neoclassical style building.
In Perak Tong there are 40 Buddhist statues and various murals. Do not forget to visit the Kek Lok Tong, a unique Chinese cave temple with beautiful scenery. Outside Ipoh, near Batu Gajah is Kellie's Castle, an early 20th century castle build by William Kellie Smith.
Things to do
You can take a dip in Tambun Hot Spring or try various water rides in the Lost World of Tambun. You can also explore the beautiful limestone cave called Gua Tempurung. Gua Tempurung is the largest limestone cave in the Malaysian Peninsula. If you are looking for a touch of nature you can go trekking in Manglembu-Kledang Hils.
Things to eat
The typical and famous food in Ipoh is Ipoh Noodle. It is served with chicken or shrimp and a bowl of boiled bean sprouts sprinkled with chili pepper and slices. Ipoh Sar Hor Fun is equally delicious. This food is made of rice noodles with shrimp or chicken sauce and scallions. Salty chicken is another typical Ipoh dish.
