Green Canyon

If you want to see the Grand Canyon in Arizona you don't need to go there because Indonesia also has a "Grand Canyon". Indonesians usually call it the Green Canyon, located about 31 km (16 miles) from Pangandaran Beach, the exact location is in Kertayasa village, Cijulang sub-district, Ciamis West Java.

The original name of this Green Canyon is Cukang Taneuh, which means a land bridge. That is because there is a 3 metres wide land bridge that lies over Green Canyon valley and cliff. This bridge connects Kertayasa and Batukaras village. The name 'Green Canyon' itself was named by a French tourist in 1993. The tourist was fascinated by the natural beauty and the green tosca river, that's why he called that place as Green Canyon, inspired by Grand Canyon in the USA.

This beautiful destination is actually a river stream flowing through a cave full of beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. It is also flanked between two hills with trees and rocks as the ornaments. The calm green tosca river completes this site as an outstanding scenery to visit. You can rent a boat to explore the Green Canyon. You can also enjoy the beauty by swimming or diving. But for you, a non-swimmer, no need to worry because there are rentable (floats) buoys. You just need to pay IDR 5000 to rent the buoys and you will be guided to explore the river as the extra service. To rent a boat, usually called as 'ketinting' containing up to 5 passengers, you will be charged IDR 75000 for 45 minutes to 1 hour.

You might prefer to visit this place in dry season. Because in the rainy season the water will become dirty brown, the stream swifter and the water will also be much higher. You might also want to prepare cash money because there is no ATM nearby.
