The Malioboro is a must place to visit while you are in Jogja. You can not say you have been to Jogja if you have not been to the Malioboro. The Malioboro is the icon of Jogja. The Malioboro is a street in the city centre which runs from the main Tugu Train Station to the Central Post Office, not far from the Sultans Palace (Kraton). It is a very fibrant and crowded street filled with small kiosks on both sides selling all kinds of handicrafts and clothes.
Just walking down the Malioboro street is an extraordinary experience. Along the street, you will find identical souvenir like silver stuff, rattan, shadow puppet, and blangkon. You can get them cheaply if you are good in bargaining though, otherwise you will end up paying several times the normal price.. You can get some food and snacks like bakpia, nut salad, dawet, and fat satai. Near the Central Post Office are seats and artists performances. In the evening the Malioboro and its side streets will be filled with music performances, beggar singers and food sellers.
