On Time and Often-Delay Airlines in Indonesia

Flight delays from the fixed schedule often make passengers upset. But not all airlines in Indonesia have poor punctuality. Not long ago, the Ministry of Transport (MoT ) has released data relating to punctuality or On Time Performance ( OTP ) of nine airlines in Indonesia for the 1st Semester or January to June 2013 period.

There are three indicators used by MoT (Kemenhub) to determine good or bad OTP airline in Indonesia, namely technical and operational factors (TO) , non-technical factors ( NTO ) and weather factors ( CUA ). For the first semester of 2013, the average score of nine airlines’ OTP in Indonesia is over 70 %. OTP score of an airline can be considered good if it’s above 80 %, if it’s above 70 % then the airline's OTP is fairly regular, while if the airline’s OTP score is under 70 % then it is bad.

The bottom position or late is occupied by Merpati airline with OTP average score is about 70.46% in the first semester of 2013. The eighth position is occupied by Indonesia AirAsia with 74.78% of OTP average score. The seventh position is occupied by Lion Air with 75.8% of OTP average score. The sixth position is occupied by Citilink airline with 77.78% of OTP average score. The fifth position is occupied Wings Air airline serving mostly domestic flight routes with 79.38% of OTP average score.

For the fourth position is occupied by Sriwijaya Air airline with 80.34% of OTP average score. This score is increased than this airline average score in 2012 which was only 79.77%. The third position is occupied by Tigerair Mandala with 81.76% of OTP average score. OTP score of this airline is decreasing for in 2012, Tigerair Mandala got 91.18 % average score.

For the second position is occupied by Batik Air airline with 83% of OTP average score. The airline that has been operating for a few months is able to occupy the best two position beating Lion Air which actually is on the same company. While the first position is occupied by Garuda Indonesia airline with 87.24% of OTP average score. The average score of this airline's OTP is fairly increasing because in 2012 the average score was only 84.96%.
