Suramadu Bridge

The Suramadu Bridge is with a combined suspension of 5438 meter the longest bridge in Indonesia. The bridge connects the city of Surabaya with the island of Madura. Construction of the bridge started in 2003 and the bridge was officially opened in 2009. The construction costed 4.5 trillion Rupiah (around 450 million dollar).

There are 3 parts of this bridge. The first one is fly-over on both side, covering 1458 meters from Surabaya and 1818 meters from Madura. The second part is the connector of 627 m each. The last part is the central bridge which consists of 2 192 m side-extensions and 434 m main extension.

Though the aim of this bridge is to fasten develompent in Madura in both infrastructure and economy, the bridge has become a popular place to visit for tourists and locals alike. The view from here is very interesting. In the afternoon you can see Madura Sea from the bridge and this will make you feel you're flying above the sea. Or while looking to the Surabaya direction, you can see Jalesveva Jayamahe Statue and Kenjeran Beach. Night visits at Suramadu bridge are also fascinating with all the colorful lamps on the bridge.

Another way to enjoy this magnificent bridge is by renting a boat and sailing underneath it. You can rent the boat from Tanjung Perak Harbor.

To get to Suramadu Bridge, you can take a bus heading to Madura at Bangurasih bus station then get off before the highway if you want to enjoy this bridge from Surabaya. It will take 10 minutes for you to to continue your trip to Kamal Port. If you use private vehicle, your car will be charged for IDR 30,000. You need to be careful if you use motorcycle for the wind is very strong.
