Parangtritis (or often abreviated to Paris) may come to your mind when you are visiting Yogyakarta. But in southern Yogyakarta, in the Gunung Kidul region, there are some other beautiful white sand beaches. One of them is Ngrenehan Beach, on western Gunung Kidul, located in Kanigoro village, Saptosari sub-district. Getting here is quite difficult compared to other beaches in Gunung Kidul but if you are in Yogyakarta and have the time, you should definitely come to this beach, you will not regret it at all.
Ngrenehan Beach is not as crowded as other beaches in Yogyakarta, it is more like a private beach. That's why this beach is not spoiled yet and it is just white sand, blue water framed in corals. Unlike other southern beaches in Java Island which have big waves and strong currents, Ngrenehan Beach is protected by the ocean as it is located in a small bay, it barely has waves so you can safely swim here.
Facilities
There is a fish market near the parking lot selling fresh fishes from the fishermen caught that morning. After buying the fresh delicious fish here, you can then have them cooked for you on the beach or you can carry them home. Don't worry about the price as the fish is dirt cheap.
Transport options Ngrenehan Beach
You would need to use private vehicle as there is no public transportation heading to this beach. It is easy to rent a motorbike or car with driver in Yogyakarta. A motorbike would cost Rp 30.000 to 50.000 a day, a car with driver around Rp 300.000. From Yogyakarta you take the route to Wonosari until you find Trowono Market, then turn south until you get to Saptosari village. Turn left when you get to the T-junction of Wonosari-Imogiri.
