
Tanjungpura temple is one more cultural legacy which has not been completely researched. The temple is situated in the village Negeri Baru in the district Benua Kayong Kabupaten Ketapang, near the river Pawan.
The research of the Tanjungpura Temple is being done by the Institute for Archaeology (Balai Arkeologi) Banjarmasin and they have already came with some findings. However, this research is still in its early stages, there are still many mysteries unsolved. The site is thought to be an ancient Tanjungpura Temple. The Tanjungpura name is temporarily though, since form the research so far the actual name is not yet known.
The structure of the Tanjungpura temple is made of red bricks covered with statues and reliefs on the walls of the entrance. There are some findings of rice jars made from andesite material measuring 40 cm and it's the believe this is household equipment of the Tanjungpura community. Another finding is that there is a phallus symbol with a pentagonal base.
Temple Tanjungpura is thought to be the center of origin of the ancient kingdom of Tanjung Pura which came to full glory in the 13th and 14th century. Judging from the shape and structure made of red brick, the temple Tanjungpura is similar to temples in East Java. In addition there is a Muslim tomb which is similar to the Muslim tombs in Troloyo in the ancient capital of Majapahit Kuno also from around the 13th or 14th century.
