The National Museum of Singapore is located at 93 Stamford Rd, Singapore and is the oldest museum of the country, established in 1887. In the early years till the independence of Singapore in 1965 the museum was famous for its zoological and ethnographic collections, but after the independence the museums focused on national building and history of the country. The zoological collection was moved to universities and other museum. It was then named the Singapore History Museum.

In 2004 a SGD 132 million construction and restoration work was carried out which took two years. The museum changed name again and is now the National Museum of Singapore. The building itself is worth visiting if you love architecture.

The museum features the history of Singapore from the 14th century till the present day in a 2800 square meter exhibition space. The museum is divided into two main parts namely the Singapore History Gallery and Singapore Living Galleries which features exhibits of photographic, fashion, film and cuisine artifacts

The Singapore History Gallery shows major events in the history of Singapore and is equipped with sophisticated audio visual equipment.

The museum is open between 10:00 to 18:00 o'clock with an entry fee of SGD 10 for adults, and for children below 17 years, students and visitors over 60 years old the entry fee is SGD 5. Children under 6 years are admitted free.

The museum is located across the YMCA at the Stamford Road. Numerous busses ply this road. Get off at the YMCA bus stop. With MRT get off at Bras Basah MRT station.
