The Xi'an Xianyang International Airport serves the city of Xi'an in northwest China. It is China's 8th busiest airport with 25 million passengers.
The airport opened in 1991 on a former military airfield replacing the old Xian Xiguan Airport. Several construction phases have since been carried out and now the airport consists of two runways and three terminals and it is one of the airports that can handle the Airbus A380 Superjumbo.
Most flights from Xi'an Xianyang International Airport are to Guangzhou and to Bangkok but there are many more flights to other destinations as well, most of them by China Eastern Airlines. Only Xiamen Airlines flies from Terminal 1 while China Eastern, China Southern and Shanghai Airlines use the new Terminal 3. All other airlines use Terminal 2. The Xi'an Airport is mostly a domestic airport. Its central location in the country makes it an ideal hub for connecting flights between the east and western parts of the country. There are a few international flights as well. These all arrive and depart at Terminal 2.
The Xi'an Xianyang International Airport is located 40 km northwest of Xi'an city centre.
Airport buses are available at Xi'an Airport. There are six lines and a ticket has to be bought at the booth inside. Two of the lines are used most often: Line 1 goes to the Bell Tower and line 2 will terminate at the railway station.
Due to the considerable distance between the airport and Xi'an a taxi can be expensive: expect to pay about RMB 150 to 200 for the ride into town.
