The Cat Bi International Airport is the airport serving Hai Phong in North Vietnam.
Cat Bi airport was built by the French in the colonial area as an airforce base. After the Vietnam war the air base was transformed to a civilian airport.
In 2015 and 2016 the airport was upgraded with a runway extension to 3000 meters and a new terminal. This has increased capacity and level of service and allows Cat Bi Airport to receive larger aircraft like Boeing 767 or similar.
Cat Bi International Airport is located just outside the city, about 5 km to the southeast of Hai Phong center.
You don't have many options to get away from Cat Bi Airport. The only options are a normal taxi or a motorcycle taxi. As the city is close by both options are cheap: a taxi into Hai Phong would cost about VND 50.000 while the motorcycle taxi costs VND 40.000.
