The Kevlavik International Airport is the main airport in Iceland and the main entry point in Iceland for international passengers. The Kevlavik Airport serves Reykjavik, the capital, and this airport should not be confused with Reykjavik Airport which is a domestic only airport.
Kevalik Airport is the base for national airline Icelandair and low-cost carrier WOW air.
Keflavík International Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Keflavík International Airport, most of these are operated by Icelandair. Many people take a flight to Barcelona and transfer to another flight there.
The airport has two runways and one passenger terminal which was originally build in 1987 but it has been extended several times. It has a North and South building for Shengen and non-schengen destinations. Although Iceland only has 300.000 inhabitants, the airport is quite large and modern. It has duty-free shops, atms, cafes and tourist information.
Kevalik Airport is located about 55 km southwest of Reykjavik and 3 km west of Kevlavik.
The only connection between the airport and Reykjavik is by road so you have the choice between several buses or a taxi.
Several bus companies offer airport express buses to Reykjavik. Both can also drop you off at your hotel, but you need to book in advance. Flybus has regular buses to BSO bus terminal (2500 Krona, 45 minutes) while Gray Line Airport Express will depart to their terminal in Reykjavik from where you will be brought to your final destination by smaller buses (2400 Krona, 45 minutes).
There is also a local bus (bus line #55) but it departs only nine times a day to the central bus terminal of Reykjavik (1600 Krona, 70 minutes).
