The Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport is the fourth-busiest airport of France. The airport was named Lyon Satolas Airport but was renamed in 2000 after Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, the famous writer and aviation pioneer and citizen of Lyon. The airport opened in 1975, replacing the Lyon Bron Airport.
The airport is since 1994 connected to the TGV high-speed rail network of France, allowing you to catch a train from the airport to Paris or Marseille.
Lyon–Saint-Exupéry Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Lyon–Saint-Exupéry Airport, most of these are operated by KLM Cityhopper. Many people take a flight to Amsterdam and transfer to another flight there.
The Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport has two runways and two terminals. The former low-cost terminal Terminal 3 is since April 2017 not in use and will be demolished. A major construction project will double the capacity of Terminal 1 and all low-cost airlines have moved to Terminal 1 in April 2017.
Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport is located 25 km southeast of Lyon city center.
Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport has since 2010 a tram connection called Rhônexpress which greatly improved the time to get into central Lyon but it is more expensive. All the TCL express buses to Lyon have since 2016 ceased to operate, leaving you little choice. The Rhônexpress takes 30 minutes and a one-way ticket is is a hefty 15.90 euro, but can be cheaper if you book online in advance.
The only alternative is to take bus line 1950 to La Verpilliere railway station (25 minutes, 5 euro) and take a TER regional train into central Lyon (15 minutes, 7 euro), which is a bit cheaper but takes more time than the tram line.
A taxi into Lyon would cost about 50 euro and are available outside Terminal 1.
