Sandakan Airport is a medium-sized airport north of the city of Sandakan in the state of Sabah on Malaysian Borneo.
The airport is a bit old-fashioned and is in need of an upgrade. The facilities at Sandakan Airport are modest comparing to other Malaysian Airports.
Sandakan Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Sandakan Airport, most of these are operated by AirAsia. Many people take a flight to Kuala Lumpur and transfer to another flight there.
The airport is located only about 10 km northwest from the city, a 20 minute drive by car.
Strangely enough the Batu Bus line 7 does not stop at the terminal but on the roundabout just in front of the terminal. This means you need to walk, but it is only a short distance (exit the car park at the right side, turn left and continue till you are at the roundabout). The bus heads to Sandakan center and costs RM 2.
Taxi coupons are available in the terminal. A trip into the city would cost RM 30, but expect to pay a lot more after midnight.
