Whanganui Airport (until recently called Wanganui Airport) is a small airport serving Whanganui in the southwest of the North Island. The airport is located only 4 km from the City Center of Whanganui. Both Air New Zealand and Sounds Air offered flights here to Wellington but both cancelled their services. Currently only Air Chathams offers flights to Auckland.
Car rental is offered at Whanganui Airport by Avis, Budget and Hertz. If you prefer a taxi there should be taxis waiting at the taxi rank near the baggage claim area, if not, there is a free direct phone access to the taxi company from within the terminal. Expect to pay around $25 to get to Whanganui Central City by taxi.
