About Wilmington International Airport

Wilmington

Wilmington International Airport (ILM) is located in southeastern North Carolina, approximately 5 miles from downtown Wilmington. The airport was first established in 1927 as Bluethenthal Field and was named after Arthur Bluethenthal, a local World War I pilot who died in combat. In 1940, the airport was taken over by the U.S. Army Air Corps and used as a training base during World War II. After the war, the airport was returned to civilian control and underwent several renovations and expansions.

Today, ILM serves as a regional airport with over 20 daily flights to major cities such as Atlanta, Charlotte, New York, and Washington D.C. The airport is served by several major airlines, including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines. In addition to commercial flights, ILM also accommodates private and corporate aircraft.

The airport features a modern terminal building with a variety of amenities, including restaurants, shops, and free Wi-Fi. Other facilities include a business center, conference rooms, and a pet relief area. The airport also offers several parking options, including short-term, long-term, and economy parking.

Public transportation options to and from the airport include taxis, ride-sharing services, and rental cars. The airport is also served by Wave Transit, which operates several bus routes throughout Wilmington and the surrounding areas.

Overall, Wilmington International Airport provides convenient access to southeastern North Carolina and serves as an important transportation hub for the region.
