The Baiyun International airport of Guangzhou is China's second busiest with over 40 million passengers a year. The airport serves the city of Guangzhou and the province Guangdong, formerly known as Canton, and is a major hub to other destinations in China.
This airport replaces the old and by now closed Baiyin airport and therefore it is sometimes called New Baiyun Airport. It is constructed recently and opened in 2004.
Most flights from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport are to Shanghai and to Shanghai but there are many more flights to other destinations as well, most of them by China Southern Airlines. Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is located in Huadu District, 25 kilometers north of Guangzhou center.
If you do not have a lot of luggage then it is easiest to take Metro Line 3 at the lower level of the terminal, a one way ticket is about RMB 12. Otherwise better to take a taxi or the Airport Express bus. The Airport Express bus is also available outside the Arrival hall. There are several lines to different parts of Guangzhou. Ticket prices are about RMB 16 but can reach RMB 60 to outer destinations. There is no direct bus from the airport to Macau or Hong Kong. If you want to go there, you would need to take a bus or metro to the bus station or East Railway Station first.
Taxi's are available outside the Arrival Hall, a ride into town would cost about RMB 130, including the toll fee. Be aware, there may be a long line at the taxi stand.
