The Esenboga Airport is the main international airport serving Ankara, the capital city of Turkey. The airport was opened in 1955 but remained a small airport till fairly recently. In 2002 2.8 million passengers used Ankara Airport, now this has grown to over 13 million making it the fourth largest airport of the country.
Ankara Esenboga Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Ankara Esenboga Airport , most of these are operated by ValuAir. Many people take a flight to Istanbul and transfer to another flight there.
Esenboga airport has two runways and was one of the emergency landing sites for NASA's Space Shuttle. It has two terminals, both were constructed in 2006. One is the Domestic Terminal and the other the International Terminal.
The airport is located 30 km northeast of Ankara city center.
Bus line 442 connects the airport to the central districts in Ankara, the historic center of Ulus and Ankara Intercity Bus Terminal (ASTI). A one-way ticket is TRY 8 and departures are every 20 minutes, but not at night.
