The Fukuoka International Airport, formerly the Itazuke Air Base is the fourth busiest airport in Japan with close to 20 million passengers.
The airport is close to the city so it is surrounded by residential areas, therefore the airport does not operate at night: the last flight is at 10pm and flights resume in the morning at 7am.
Fukuoka is often seen as the most convenient airport in Japan.
Japan Airlines and ANA serve many domestic routes to all major cities in Japan from Fukuoka and many airlines offer international flights to Fukuoka as well.
Most flights from Fukuoka Airport are to Tokyo and to Seoul but there are many more flights to other destinations as well, most of them by Japan Airlines. Every day there are flights to 11 destinations from Fukuoka Airport. Here are the most popular destinations:
The airport has just one runway and four terminals, three domestic ones of which Terminal 2 is connected to the subway system and an international terminal.
The Fukuoka International Airport is located just a few kilometers east of the central Hakata train station.
The airport is connected to the subway system which is often the most convenient option in getting into the city. The subway station is located under Terminal 2, the domestic terminal. If you arrive at Terminal 1 you can simply walk to Terminal 2 as they are only a five minute walk apart. From the International terminal there are free shuttle buses to take you to Terminal 2, departing every ten minutes and the trip takes ten minutes as well.
Taxis are of course available as well and a better choice if you are with several people or carrying lots of luggage: since the airport is so close to the city it will be a short and relatively cheap taxi ride.
