The Sultan Azlan Shah Airport serving Ipoh in northern Peninsular Malaysia is a small airport which has grown quickly in the last years. It is now the seventh busiest airport in Malaysia with over 200.000 passengers a year.
The airport has a new terminal and runway which were constructed in 2014. The goal was to enable larger aircraft to land here but due to potholes in the new runway still only propeller aircraft could land here. It was thought that the RM 45 million spend on the upgrade was wasted. A few months later the problem was fixed though and currently several new airlines have started flights to Ipoh.
The airport is located within the city, surrounded by residential areas, about 2 km to the southeast of Ipoh city center.
Ipoh Airport has a prepaid voucher system for taxi's. A destination anywhere in Ipoh can be reached for a fixed MYR 25.00 while a trip from the city to the airport may cost bit less, about MYR 20.00.
