Jolo Airport is a small domestic airport serving Jolo City and the surrounding area in Sulu province. The airport was built in 1944 during World War II by the US military.
After the war the British, who then owned the airport, gave it to the government of Sulu province. Since then the airport was expanded in 1965 and 2009. The airport handles only several ten thousand passengers a year so the terminal building is very basic and small.
Jolo Airport is just about 2 km east from the city center of Jolo.
Tricycles and jeepneys are available to take you to the city center. Foreign tourists are advised, for their own safety, to inform the Local Government Unit of Jolo of their arrival.
