The Luang Prabang International Airport is a small and cozy airport and the main entry-point for visitors to northern Laos. Luang Prabang Airport has domestic flights to Vientiane, Pakse and Ban Hat Tai by Laos Airlines and international flights to Bangkok, Hanoi and Siem Reap.
The airport has one small terminal used for both domestic and international flights. It is often pretty quiet without queues for check-in and passport control. Although the airport is small it has all the basic facilities: ATM's, currency exchange, café and some shops.
The airport is located just 3 km northeast of Luang Prabang city center.
There is no public transport at Luang Prabang Airport but you can walk to the main road and flag one of the many passing tuk-tuks down, they can bring you into the city for US$ 2, after negotiating.
Be aware though that if you arrive on an international flight to Luang Prabang you may need to get a Visa on Arrival. Most nationalities would need one, ASEAN nationals do not need a visa and can stay up to 30 days. If you need a visa be sure to have US dollars ready (visa is typically $35 plus dollar processing fee and a dollar for making a passport picture if you don't have one).
There is not a public or shuttle bus at this airport but since the airport is only 3 km north of the city, taxis into town are cheap. Expect to pay about US$ 6 at the taxi booth outside the arrival hall.
