Tenerife South Airport is with 9 million passengers annually the larger of the two airports on Tenerife (the other one is Tenerife North Airport) and the second largest on the Canary Islands (after Gran Canaria Airport). The airport opened in 1978, a year after the deadliest aircraft accident in history at Tenerife North Airport (583 people died when two Boeings collided on the runway).

Tenerife South Airport has one runway and one passenger terminal with two floors and a basement. All check-in counters, waiting areas and baggage reclaim is on the ground floor (Floor 0). On the upper floor are the airline offices.
The Tenerife South Airport is located about 60 km south of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the capital of the island Tenerife.
Public transport is limited to buses and taxis. Public buses depart in front of the terminal to all towns on the island. The buses stop around midnight and start in early morning, around 6am. A one-way ticket to Costa Adeje will be 3.70 euro, to Santa Cruz itself will be almost 10 euro.
