About Korean Air

Korean Air is the largest airline of South Korea and in the top 20 of largest airlines in the world based on passengers carried. Founded in 1946 by the government it quickly became a major international airline and now serves destinations in 44 countries.

In the '70 and '80 Korean Air had several fatal crashes and disasters including Flight 007 which was shot down by the Russians in 1983. The airplane carrying 269 people deviated from its intended course and flew over Russia. The Russians thought it was a spy-plane and shot the aircraft down with air-to-air missiles. This incident was reason for the Reagan Administration to allow worldwide access to their classified, military global positioning system, now universally known as GPS.

Korean Air has a fleet of about 150 aircraft with another 120 aircraft ordered.

Korean Air flies to over 111 destinations. Most Korean Air flights are for destinations in China but Korean Air has international flights to several other countries as well, like for example United States and Japan.
