With over 7 million passengers a year Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport is the seventh-busiest airport of Italy. The airport is named after Guglielmo Marconi, the Italian engineer and inventor who contributed greatly to the development of radio and telegraph and was a recipient of the 1909 Nobel Prize in Physics.
Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport, most of these are operated by Lufthansa. Many people take a flight to Frankfurt and transfer to another flight there.
The Bologna Airport has one single runway and a recently (2013) expanded main passenger terminal which included new gates, check-in facilities and many new shops. The check-in and arrival facilities are on the ground flour, while the gates are accessible from the first floor.
The Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport is located about 8 km northwest of the city center of Bologna, in northern Italy.
The AeroBus, operated by TPER, departs every 10 minutes to the city center (Mille) and central station (Stazione Centrale). The trip takes about 20 to 25 minutes. Tickets can be bought online or at the vending machines in the terminal. A one-way ticket is 6 euro and is valid on all TPER buses for 75 minutes. When you enter the bus you need to validate (time-stamp) your ticket in the machine. Bologna is a large train transportation hub and from its central station many trains depart to cities in northern Italy.
Taxis are waiting outside the terminal. A ride into central Bologna would be just about 15 euro, which makes it a good alternative if you are with two or more people.
