The Yangon International Airport is the main gate-way into Myanmar with over twenty airlines offering international flights from all major cities in the region.
Yangon International Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Yangon International Airport, most of these are operated by Myanmar Airways. Many people take a flight to Bangkok and transfer to another flight there.
In 2016 a new domestic and international terminal opened, while the old domestic terminal was demolished. So now Yangon Airport has three terminals, two for international flights and one for domestic flights. The new international terminal is named Terminal 1 while the former international terminal is now named Terminal 2. The domestic terminal is called Terminal 3.
The airport is located 15 km north of central Yangon near the city of Mingaladon.
The best way to get to or from the airport is by taking a taxi. A taxi into town will cost about US $8 while a taxi to the airport will be a bit cheaper.
If you are on a budget you can take a bus but you would need to walk 1 km to the bus stop on the main road. You can get to the bus stop by exiting the international terminal and turn right at the main road. After 1 km is the Pyay Road where you will find the bus stop on the other side of the road for line YBS37 which goes to downtown Yangon (300 kyat).
