Trat Airport is the third airport after Koh Samui and Sukothai airport that was built and is operated by Bangkok Airways. The Trat Airport is located in the province of Trat, Eastern Thailand, 315 km south east from Bangkok.
Trat Airport was built as a response to increased tourism in Koh Chang and commenced operations on March 31, 2003.
The airport is built on an area of 1,200 hectares and has a 1,800 meter runway with a terminal with an open structure same as the other airports built by Bangkok Airways. Initially the airport was just used for flights from and to Bangkok.
The airport is located about 30 km west of the city of Trat and about 20 km northwest from the main ferry terminal to Koh Chang.
The popular island of Koh Chang can be reached in 30 minutes. Do not hope you can find a taxi at the airport though, you can get public transport trucks (songthaew) on the main road near the airport that will take you to the docks for 100 baht, here you can get on a ferry to Koh Chang (agian around 100 Baht).
Alternatively you can use one of the more comfortable minibuses (at around 500 Baht per person) which includes a ferry boat ticket.
