The Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, until 2006 known as Chiang Kai-shek International Airport (after a former Taiwanese president) and also named CKS International Airport is the main gateway into Taiwan / Republic of China
The airport opened in 1979 to alleviate congestion at the Taipei Songshan Airport in downtown Taipei. The Taoyuan Airport is the main hub for flag carrier China Airlines and private carrier Eva Air and a major hub for transfer flights.
Most flights from Taoyuan International Airport are to Hong Kong and to Bangkok but there are many more flights to other destinations as well, most of them by EVA Air. Every day there are flights to 20 destinations from Taoyuan International Airport. Here are the most popular destinations:
The airport has two terminals, Terminal 1 and 2 which are both split into a south concourse (Concource A and C respectively) and north concourse (B and D) each with about 10 gates. Two automated trains connect the two terminals. There is not any logic in the assignment of airlines to Concourses so you need to pay attention. China Airlines mostly uses Concourse D and Eva Air mostly C, but they also have flights from A and B, while other airlines use C and D as well.
Taoyuan International Airport is located about 40 km west of Taipei, in Taoyuan County.
The new MRT metro line is the best option to get in Taipei. The trains operate between 06:00 and 23:00 and a one-way fare is TWD 160. There are commuter and express train departing every 15 minutes.
The High Speed Rail Express train departs from the Taoyuan High Speed Rail station which is unfortunately not at walking distance from the terminals. You can take the MRT to this station. The express train will cost TWD 165 and will take you to Taipei Main Station.
Express airport buses will cost about TWD 150, depart every 15 minutes and can take you to numerous destinations in Taipei, best to inform there which bus goes closest to your destinations.
