The Umbu Mehang Kunda Airport is a small domestic airport serving Waingapu, the largest town on Sumba Island. This airport is also known as Mau Hau Airport or more simply as Waingapu Airport.
A new terminal was opened in 2016 which greatly improved facilities and services at Umbu Mehang Kunda Airport, but with only a few flights a day the facilities are still very limited.
Umbu Mehang Kunda Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Umbu Mehang Kunda Airport, most of these are operated by Wings Air. Many people take a flight to Denpasar Bali and transfer to another flight there.
Waingapu's Umbu Mehang Kunda Airport is located 5 km east of the city of Waingapu on the island of Sumba.
A taxi into town would cost around Rp. 40,000 but often there is no need for a taxi as many hotels offer free airport pick-up service.
