The Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is China's fifth busiest and is a major gateway for flights to the western part of the country and serves as a hub for Air China as well as Sichuan Airlines and Chengdu Airlines.
Although Chengdu is predominantly used by domestic passengers the airport has almost 20 international connections as well, as far away as Amsterdam and San Francisco.
Most flights from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport are to Shenzhen and to Beijing but there are many more flights to other destinations as well, most of them by Air China. The airport consists of two terminals: the older Terminal 1 and the new and larger Terminal 2. The Terminal 2 is for domestic flights only, while Terminal 1 is used for both international and domestic flights but only for domestic flights of Sichuan airlines.
The Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is located about 15 km southwest of Chengdu city center.
Getting into Chengdu from the airport is fairly easy with taxis and public buses available.
Two bus lines depart from the airport, Line 1 which is an express bus and Line 2 runs all the way to the North Railway station but it will stop everywhere. Line 1 is preferable and will drive non-stop to the Air China airline office in central Chengdu on Renmin Nanlu. Bus fares is about RMB 10.
The official taxi stand can be found outside the domestic arrival area and a ride in the city should cost around RMB 50 using the meter (including toll).
