AirAsia India is an Indian low-cost carrier and as with most of the AirAsia subsidiary airlines, AirAsia itself holds a minority stake: AirAsia Berhad has a 49% stake while the rest of the stocks are owned by Tata Sons and Arun Bhatia. AirAsia India commenced operations in June 2014 with flights on the route Bangalore to Goa. Since then AirAsia India has expanded rapidly adding dozens of destinations in a few years time.
The airlines uses an all Airbus A320-200 fleet which can accommodate 180 persons in a single class economy layout. In a few years the fleet has expanded from only one when AirAsia India commenced operations to eight aircraft in just three years time. It faces stiff competition from the other Indian low-cost airlines like GoAir, SpiceJet and IndiGo. Currently it holds a market share of just a few percent.
