Faro Airport is with over 6 million passengers a year Portugal's third-busiest airport, after Lisbon and Porto. The airport is a major hub for Ryanair which has 7 aircraft based here since 2010 and it is a large tourist destination: it gets very busy in the summer months, from March till October.
Faro Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Faro Airport, most of these are operated by Ryanair. Many people take a flight to Vienna and transfer to another flight there.
The airport is fairly small and has only one runway and one passenger terminal but with all facilities, including shops, baggage lockers, free Wi-fi and restaurants.
The airport is located only 5 km west of Faro city center.
Proximo operates several buses which depart from the airport to the city center. One-way fare is 2.50 euro and a ticket can be bought with the driver. Line 16 will be the more convenient, it departs every half hour or hour in the evening. The bus does not depart at night. Line 14 is also an option but it departs less frequent and you would need to transfer to another bus to reach the Faro city center.

Since the airport is so close to the city a taxi is very affordable. The official airport taxis are waiting outside the terminal, a taxi into the city would only cost about 15 euro. A taxi to the tourist destination Albufeira would be almost 60 euro.
