Penang International Airport is a medium sized airport and Malaysia's third biggest. It has some international connections to Bangkok, Medan and Jakarta all with AirAsia.
Most flights from Penang International Airport are to Kuala Lumpur and to Singapore but there are many more flights to other destinations as well, most of them by AirAsia. Every day there are flights to 18 destinations from Penang International Airport. Here are the most popular destinations:
Penang International Airport is located 16km south of Georgetown, the main town on Penang Island.
The Rapid Penang public buses are waiting in front of the terminal at the departures floor. Routes 401 and 401E (express) is heading for Georgetown, 102 is a route to Teluk Bahang and 306 goes to Air Itam and the General hospital. The journey to or from Georgetown, even with the Express bus, takes the scenic route and can take up to an hour. The buses are cheap though: one-way fare is 2 or 3 Ringgit.
In the arrival hall is a taxi stand where you need to buy a taxi voucher. You tell your destination to the airport employee and pay the fixed fare to him/her. With the paid voucher you then proceed to the taxi stand.
There are 7 different zones and the price depends on where you want to go. A taxi to Zone 7 (Georgetown) will cost RM 38. Be aware that all taxis fares are raised 50% between midnight and 6am.
