Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport, also simply known as DZR Airport, Tacloban Domestik or even Tacloban City Airport, is an airport which serves Tacloban in Leyte province, the Philippines and is, although small, the main gateway to Eastern Visayas region. The airport is the 8th busiest airport in the Philippines with over one million passengers a year.
Formerly, it was the airbase for the US Air Force during World War II. After the war ended and the airport was used for commercial flights, it was called as Tacloban Airport. The current airport's name is taken from Daniel Z. Romualdez, a resident of Leyte who became the Philippines House of Representatives speaker.
The airport was destroyed by Typhoon Haiyan on November 7-8th, 2013. Quickly, on November 11th, 2013, the airport was reopened but only for turboprop aircrafts. Since then it has been renovated and now it can handle again Airbus A320s aircrafts.
Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport, most of these are operated by Cebu Pacific Air. Many people take a flight to Manila and transfer to another flight there.
