The Richard Pearse Airport (or sometimes also simply called Timaru Airport), is located 10 km north of Timaru city center. The airport is named after the aviation pioneer Richard Pearse who allegedly flew before the Wright Brothers. The airport is small with hardly any facilities (there are toilets and vending machines though). Eagle Air used to fly to Timaru but at the moment only Air Nelson, a Air New Zealand link subsidiary, has flights to Wellington.
