Birmingham Airport was previously called Birmingham International Airport and also Elmdon Airport. Several airlines have a base at Birmingham Airport: Ryanair, Thomas Cook, Jet2.com and Flybe. Most flights are to destinations in the UK and to continental Europe but also to destinations further away: India, North America and the Caribbean. Emirates operates twice daily flights to Dubai, one of these with the Airbus A380 Superjumbo.
Birmingham Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Birmingham Airport, most of these are operated by easyJet. Many people take a flight to Amsterdam and transfer to another flight there.
The Birmingham Airport has a single runway and a single, two-storey passenger terminal which is divided into a Terminal 1 part and Terminal 2 part.
Birmingham Airport is located about 12 km southeast of the city center of Birmingham, the second most populous city in the UK.
The Birmingham International Rail Station is connected to the Terminal by the free Air-Rail Link which departs every two minutes and will take you to the Railway station in minutes. Trains depart multiple times an hour to New Street Station in the daytime. A one-way ticket is 3 pounds and the journey time is about 10 to 20 minutes.
Besides the train you can also take a bus: bus line 900 departs to the city center every 15 minutes in the daytime. At night you can take line 97. A one-way ticket is 2.20 pounds.
