Launceston Airport is a fast-growing regional airport in Tasmania. With 1.2 million passengers it is the 13th busiest airport in Australia and the second busiest in Tasmania, after Hobart International Airport. A major redevelopment project completed in 2009 increased the terminal capacity and added improved passengers facilities like baggage carousel, larger lounges and added a few cafes and shops.
Virgin Australia and Jetstar offer multiple daily flights to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane while Qantas only offer flights to Melbourne only. Sharp Airlines offer flights to some regional destinations.
Launceston Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Launceston Airport, most of these are operated by JetStar Airways. Many people take a flight to Melbourne and transfer to another flight there.
Launceston Airport offers a shuttle bus into the city. The shuttle bus operates between the airport and the city, stopping at hotels, the casino and the University. Oneway tickets are $18, return tickets $32.
A taxi from Launceston Airport into the city should cost $30 to $35. Taxis should be waiting outside the terminal but you can also book one in advance at 132 227.
All the major car rental agencies have an office at the arrival hall: Avis, Budget, Hertz, Europcar and Thrifty.
