About Qantas

Qantas Airways is the national carrier of Australia and also due to its logo it is sometimes nicknamed the 'The Flying Kangaroo'. It is Australia's largest airline, the second oldest airline in the world and is the only major airline which never lost a jet aircraft due to a crash.

The name Qantas is an acronym derived from Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services. It was founded in Winton, Queensland in 1920. Qantas flies to 20 domestic and about 20 international destination in Africa, America, Europe and Asia Pacific. Qantas also operates sightseeing charter flights to Antarctica without actually landing there.

In recent years it has found itself in some problems with a declining market share, several general strikes of employees forcing it to cancel all flights for several days, competition of low-cost airlines, all resulting in a major operating loss in 2011. It canceled its order of 35 new Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft to save cash. It has several wholly owned and partly owned subsidiaries, most notable the JetStar airlines group: JetStar Airways, JetStar Asia Airways, Valuair, Jetstar Pacific Airlines, JetStar Japan and JetStar HongKong.

Qantas flies to over 49 destinations. Most Qantas flights are for destinations in Australia but Qantas has international flights to several other countries as well, like for example United States and New Zealand. From its main base in Sydney 140 flights depart every week. Many people who look for Qantas tickets look for flights to Melbourne and Singapore.

Utiket is a good place to start looking for Qantas flights as we can compare all flights by Qantas with hundreds of other airlines and dozens of booking websites.
