Honolulu Airport, also known as Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, is the primary aviation gateway to Hawaii. Located in Honolulu, the capital of the state, it serves as a major hub for both domestic and international flights. The airport has a rich history, dating back to its establishment in 1927. Over the years, it has undergone significant expansions and renovations to accommodate the growing number of passengers.
The airport is served by numerous major airlines, including Hawaiian Airlines, American Airlines, United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and Southwest Airlines. These airlines offer flights to various destinations across North America, Asia, Oceania, and other parts of the world.
Honolulu International Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Honolulu International Airport, most of these are operated by Hawaiian Airlines. Many people take a flight to Tokyo and transfer to another flight there.
Honolulu Airport features four active runways and three terminals. Terminal 1 is used for international flights, while Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 handle domestic flights. The airport offers a wide range of facilities and amenities for travelers, including restaurants, shops, duty-free outlets, lounges, and car rental services. There are also currency exchange counters, ATMs, and Wi-Fi access throughout the terminals.
Public transport options to and from the airport include shuttle buses, taxis, ride-sharing services, and public buses. The airport is well-connected to the city and other parts of the island.
TheBus routes 20 and 303 stop on the upper (departure) level of the airport. Route 20 connects the airport to Pearlridge Center, Downtown Honolulu, Ala Moana Center, and Waikiki. Hickam AFB is served by the new Route 303. Routes 9, 40, 42, and 51 run on Nimitz Highway within walking distance of the airport. Route 19 (Waikiki-Airport-Hickam) is no longer in service.
When Honolulu Rail Transit phase II opens, it will serve a station at the airport connecting it to Downtown Honolulu and points west of the airport.
