Agartala Airport is the third busiest domestic airport in northeast India with more than 800,000 passengers a year. The airport was built in 1942 and was used by the US Army during World War II. After the war the airport was transformed for commercial flights to Agartala, the capital of Tripura.
The operating airlines on the airport are Air India (Kolkata), IndiGo (Bangalore, Delhi, Imphal, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Guwahati), JetKonnect (Kolkata, Guwahati) and SpiceJet (Bangalore, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai).
Agartala Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Agartala Airport, most of these are operated by IndiGo. Many people take a flight to Kolkata and transfer to another flight there.
Agartala Airport is located about 12 km northwest of Agartala city center. Buses and auto-rickshaws are available to get to the city. The airport is connected by railway but trains go to Agartala Railway Station only which is about 15 km from the airport.
