The Kununurra Airport as it is often called but officially the East Kimberley Regional Airport serves the city of Kununurra in Western Australia. The airport is located 4 km west of the town. A expansion and renovation in 2012 doubled the capacity of the airport, added baggage carousel and improved the check-in area, security and the departure lounge. Although the airport only handles under 100.000 passengers a year it is a crucial part of the local infrastructure as heavy wet seasons often cut off road travel.
Kununurra Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Kununurra Airport, most of these are operated by Airnorth. Many people take a flight to Darwin and transfer to another flight there.
Transport options at Kununurra Airport is limited to car hire and taxis. Public buses are not available. Taxis wait outside the terminal or can be booked by calling 91632553. The car agencies with an office at the airport are Avis, Budget and Thrifty.
