The Tianjin Binhai International Airport is growing rapidly with passenger numbers increasing well over 20% a year and the airport handles almost 10 million passengers a year. A major upgrade of the airport is underway which will increase the capacity to 40 million a year.
The Tianjin Airport is a hub for Air China, Okay Airways and Tianjin Airlines offering flights to 30 domestic destinations and a few international ones.
Tianjin Binhai International Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Tianjin Binhai International Airport, most of these are operated by Air China. Many people take a flight to Tokyo and transfer to another flight there.
The Tianjin Binhai International Airport is located just 15 km east of the Tianjin city center and 120 km south of Beijing. A bullet train runs between Beijing and Tianjin so it may be cheaper and easier to take the train to Beijing and fly from there as Beijing Capital Airport has a lot more direct flights than Tianjin.
Taxis are available outside the arrival hall; expect to pay about RMB 100 to get to the Tianjin city center. Shuttle buses are available as well: there are four lines to different destinations in the city. Fare will be RMB 15 to 25.
