The airport was built in 1976 but first years it was not used for commercial flights. In 2001 the basis of this airport began to improve when scheduled flights started with small aircraft.
Betoambari Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Betoambari Airport, most of these are operated by Wings Air. Many people take a flight to Makassar and transfer to another flight there.

From the airport to the Bau-Bau you have a few options. Taxis are available and with about Rp 50.000 they are quite affordable. Local transport like ojek and angkot can also be an option, with a bit cheaper price of about Rp 15.000.
