Haikou Meilan International Airport serves the city of Haikou, capital of Hainan Province and is a major hub to other destinations in China by airplane, train or boat.
The airport opened in 1999 and is with over 8 million passengers the 19th busiest in China.
Haikou Meilan International Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Haikou Meilan International Airport, most of these are operated by Hainan Airlines. Many people take a flight to Melbourne and transfer to another flight there.
The Meilan International Airport is located about 10 km southeast of Haikou city center.
The Meilan Airport has a station on the Eastern Ring Highspeed Railway, connecting all the major cities on the coast of Hainan province. You can also take city bus line 21 and 41 which depart on the main road in front of the terminal.
A taxi from the airport to Haikou city would take about an half hour at a cost of RMB 60 to 70.
